Why You Need an Outdoor Fan This Summer

Outdoor ceiling fans offer all the air flow and cooling benefits of an indoor fan, outside. That’s the real magic. You can stay comfortable even on the hottest of days with an outdoor fan, which means you get to maximize your time outside during the months when being outdoors is the thing to do.

Airflow Capacity for Any Space Size

Outdoor fans come in many different shapes and sizes, but one feature you’ll want to pay extra attention to is the airflow capacity. Which capacity fits your needs will depend on the size of space you are looking to cool.

Here are our general guidelines:

Very Small Outdoor Spaces 6’ x 6’ or Smaller:

An 18- to 36-inch blade span is ideal for these spaces. This may be a compact, outdoor seating area.

Small Outdoor Spaces from 8’ x 8’ to 10’ x 10’:

A 36- to 42-inch blade span works well in these spaces. This could be a front porch or small patio area.

Standard Sized Outdoor Spaces 12’ x 12’ to 16’ x 16’:

Blade spans of 52 to 60 inches are great for these spaces. Most patios and garages fall into this size category.

Large Outdoor Areas 18’ x 18’:

For these spaces, a blade span between 60 and 72 inches is ideal for optimal airflow. Large outdoor patios that feature seating and gazebos are examples of this size area.

Wide Open Spaces 20’ x 20’ and Up:

Spaces this big require an extra-large fan to get the job done, specifically something with a 65-inch or larger blade span. If you have a large, covered pool area, then this could be the size for you!

Damp- and Wet-Rated Fans

The rating you need depends on your specific space, but when you are looking for outdoor ceiling fans, you must choose a damp- or wet-rated unit. Damp-rated fans are better for covered areas, whereas wet-rated fans are best for more open spaces like pergolas where rain or snow may fall directly on the fan.

If you’re not sure what the fan you’re interested in is rated for, don’t hesitate to ask. The experts at Dan’s Fan City are here to help you get exactly what you’re looking for.

Climate Control Outdoors

Maybe we haven’t quite figured out how to control the weather, but an outdoor ceiling fan offers you the next best thing — climate control outside. By putting the power of cooling outdoor spaces in your hands (literally with our remote controlled units), you have the ability to enjoy these spaces for more of the year than you would otherwise.
